Technology for Nonprofits and Social Services

Datarex is a technology consultancy based in Ontario, Canada, and most of its work is with nonprofits and social service organizations. It advises on technology decisions, builds and runs software, and supports systems organizations already have.

What We Do for Nonprofits

Strategy + Advisory

You need senior technical leadership, but a full-time executive isn't justifiable. We assess your situation, from software audits to roadmaps, and develop deliverables you can act on with or without us.

Design + Build

You need software designed, built, and shipped, but not the overhead that usually comes with it. We take on the full lifecycle, from first architecture decision to production.

Support

You have systems that need to keep running. We take on the operations, and everything keeps working without adding to your plate.

Privacy and PHIPA

Datarex reviews where sensitive client data lives, who can reach it, and what PHIPA and your other obligations actually require, then hands back the gaps named and a remediation list in priority order.

This is technical assessment work rather than a legal opinion, written so your counsel and your board can act on it.

How Engagements Are Priced

Advisory work is a fixed-scope deliverable or a monthly retainer.

Design and build work opens with a paid, fixed-scope discovery followed by a fixed proposal for the build.

Managed and support work runs on a single monthly fee.

The Product We Run

CaseRex

Datarex builds and runs CaseRex, a case management platform for nonprofits and social service organizations. Running a product of our own keeps us honest about what hosting, supporting and improving software actually takes, because we carry those obligations ourselves.

Signs This Is for You

Funder reporting is pulled together by hand every cycle.
One person holds most of the systems knowledge.
Client data lives in spreadsheets rather than a system built to hold it.
A platform was bought and configured, but the team never fully adopted it.
No one senior owns technology decisions.
